2016 Lunar New Year in Squirrel Hill Kick-Off Celebration

Join us for this pan-Asian celebration of the New Year in Squirrel Hill!

Bring the whole family for performances by Steel Dragon Lion Dancers, Pittsburgh Taiko, HaiHua Chinese Youth Orchestra, Korean Children’s Choir, Dong Yum Doe Korean Martial Arts, and many more. Watch and learn with demonstrations of origami, dumpling making, and calligraphy. You’ll also find plenty of crafts for the kids, including making paper lanterns. This event is free; food will be available for purchase.

The Japan-America Society of Pennsylvania will have a display of the history of New Year in Japan as well as January 1 New Year traditions, foods, and decorations.

This year’s Lunar New year celebration is brought to you by Uncover Squirrel Hill; Pittsburgh Chinese Cultural Center; Squirrel Hill Urban Coalition; Jewish Family & Children’s Service of Pittsburgh; Organization of Chinese Americans, Pittsburgh chapter; Jewish Community Center of Greater Pittsburgh; NextGen:Pgh; Pittsburgh Chinese School; Confucius Institute at the University of Pittsburgh; Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh; University of Pittsburgh Asian Studies Center, and the Japan-America Society of Pennsylvania.
